There are some improvements made on Pes 2012. The graphics are better with the players having some facial expressions, also the fans look better than they did in PES 11. The movements of the players are more realistic with each player having his attributes as in real life. There is this new thing that wasn’t previously present in PES, you can instruct your teammates to move forward with the R3 button and choose them in corner kicks as well. One other thing I noticed is that it’s harder to accurately tackle compared to PES 11 and it’s also harder to get the ball from the opponent. PES has always, in my opinion, been steps ahead of fifa (although fifa has lately made some improvements) because of the fact that the game was never foreseeable (since Iss pro and pro ev 2 on ps1, where I remember in fifa 99, 2000, 2001 you almost knew what was going to happen) and it’s getting better every year. PES is even better for people with high knowledge of football and that also play or have played in real life.

|Finally a step toward the right direction,
As a PES (Winning 11) fan since 99 and a very pissed Konami customer in the last couple of years, I am very happy and pleased this year. This PES by far better than any other PES on the current game console generations..
+ The graphics is revamped and stunning, beautiful.. (still some minor animations issues can be seen but you will not notice them)
+ The attack feels solid, passing is improved.
+ Team AI is unbelievably better than last year.
+ The defence system is changed than last year but it feels better (Still you have to redo the learning curve which might upset some customers.)
- Same cheesy menus/ soundtrack –> who care about the menus/ sound track!!!!!
- Some licence are missing .. this might be bad for those team fans.
In my opinion even this is not the most polished game but it is the most solid authentic football (soccer) game..

Every year I had faithfully coughed up $60 for the new FIFA. And every year I felt like it was a steep price for what was basically a roster upgrade. The game played like an arcade game, with balls sort of ping-ponging around from player to player. I love FIFA’s licensing (obviously), and its glitzy presentation. But this year, I finally decided to try PES instead. And I’m definitely glad I did. I think the gameplay itself puts it head and shoulders above FIFA.
“Head and shoulders” makes me think of headers, which were nearly impossible in FIFA. It’s been a huge problem for years with that franchise. The PES functions a lot like real life. I can get the ball out wide and cross it in headers, that guys get on the end of, and sometimes score – or head out of bounds more times than not. This makes me happy because it looks like the real stuff you see on TV.
Teammate AI is better in PES – the defensive help is quite realistic. I think the opponent AI is good too. Even on Amateur (yes, I’m old and I suck), if you do dumb things, the game will score on you.
The goals in FIFA always seemed to come from specific spots on the pitch year-after-year. Once you found those spots, you were golden. In PES though, I’ve seen all kinds of crazy goals from different spots, which I love. I had a low cross from the end-line (almost impossible to perform in FIFA’s past) – going across the front of the goalie – ricochet in off a defender’s back, for example.
Obviously it sucks for the licensing and the player names. You have to edit some team names, players, especially in the English Premier League since only Tottenham and Manchester United are fully licensed. I think we can all agree that it is annoying. But, if you don’t mind tweaking some of the info a bit (or I’m sure there are downloads available online), it is a worthwhile time investment.
Also, you can customize a lot of stuff in this. So you can build your own team with your own players then sub them into the EPL for example. I wish more games in general, especially sports games, gave you MORE customization. If you wanted to make your own City Men’s 40+ year old’s League, with their complete jerseys, you could do it…
I like the Champions League presentation (with the epic song) too. I hate the PES main menu music though; FIFA has the catchier menu music. I never thought I’d notice it, but PES is kind of cheap there, and you hear it ALL the time. Master League/ Manager Mode is pretty good, and I would say better than FIFA’s version last year, but to be fair, they’re similar to each other. It’s easy to go over budget on player salaries, though, if you are not careful. Also, selling players on the Transfer market is very difficult, so I just end up releasing them and paying the severance fee. I don’t play online, so I can’t say how good/bad that part is.
Overall though, if you like football/soccer a lot, then this is the game to get. I wish EA didn’t have a monopoly on the rights to most sports games, since competition is always a good thing. I would love to see what PES would do with EA’s full licenses!
